Synopsis:
Caregiving is a continually evolving 24 by 7 task as the needs if the care recipients rarely remain unchanged. The constant commitment of labour, time, patience and emotional support that a caregiver requires can take a toll on the caregivers’ physical, emotional and mental well-being. Caregiving stress and burnout are familiar words to people involved in helping roles. Burnout does not happen overnight. It creeps up on one gradually with subtle initial signs and symptoms. The early symptoms are red flags that something is not right and needs to be addressed. Otherwise, it will eventually result in a major breakdown and possibly depression. This Covid-19 pandemic has heightened the demand and intensity of caregiving; hence, there is a critical need for caregiver support. This talk will equip with the necessary knowledge and skills to define caregiving, identify different categories of caregivers, self-care tactics for caregivers and strategies to support caregivers around you.
